Hey Wanderlori Travelers! I’ve recently returned from a mesmerizing river cruise aboard the Emerald Dawn, navigating through Holland & Belgium in bloom. From vibrant tulip fields to charming historical cities, the experience was nothing short of magical.
As I reminisce about the journey, I’m thrilled to share the details with you and invite you to join our exclusive “Tulips and the Rhine Itinerary” from April 19-26, 2025!
The Magic of River Cruising
Effortless Exploration: One of the standout perks of river cruising is the ease and speed of getting on and off the ship, right in the heart of historic tourist zones. No lengthy commutes or transfers – get straight into the action!
Comfort on the Go: Imagine having your room travel with you, eliminating the hassle of packing and unpacking. Your floating hotel ensures you wake up to a new city without ever leaving the comfort of your cabin.
All-Inclusive Luxury: Enjoy gourmet dining, soothing drinks, and impeccable service onboard. The Emerald Dawn offered a culinary journey that was as delightful as the destinations themselves.
My Adventure Itinerary Day 1: Hello, Amsterdam! Greeted by an Emerald Cruises representative, I embarked on the Star-Ship, ready for an exciting adventure. The welcome was warm, and the ship's contemporary design set the tone for a luxurious journey.
Day 2: Amsterdam - Zaanse Schans We began the cruise with a visit to Zaanse Schans, a quintessential Dutch town with historic windmills and artisan workshops. The smell of freshly baked goods wafted through the air, adding to the charm. Alternatively, some guests enjoyed a bike tour to Waterland, passing picturesque tulip fields. A relaxing afternoon followed with a clog painting demonstration onboard.
Day 3: Rotterdam - Rotterdam’s skyline is a modern marvel, a patchwork of architectural styles juxtaposed against the city’s historic past. Our day included an architectural tour highlighting the city’s unique buildings, including the innovative Cube Houses. We also visited the Markthal, a vibrant indoor market where tasting local favorites like stroopwafels and krokets is a must.
Day 4: The Hague - The royal and administrative capital of the Netherlands, The Hague, did not disappoint. Home to the Peace Palace and the Mauritshuis Museum, the city offered a blend of history, culture, and culinary delights. A bike tour through the Dutch countryside was available for the more adventurous.
Day 5: Antwerp - Arriving in Belgium, we explored Antwerp, the city of Pieter Paul Rubens. A guided tour of the city center and its café-lined cobbled lanes was spectacular. Highlights included the Renaissance city hall and the medieval fortress, Hat Steen. For lunch, we indulged in authentic Belgian fries with special sauce – after all, this is where they were invented!
Day 6: Nijmegen - In Nijmegen, we visited the Airborne Museum in Arnhem, which provided an immersive journey through World War II’s Operation Market Garden. Alternatively, there was a scenic biking tour in Nijmegen.
Day 7: Amsterdam – Keukenhof Gardens We returned to Amsterdam, visiting the Keukenhof Gardens. Nestled amidst tulip farms, the gardens boasted incredible displays of millions of bulb varieties. It was like walking through a living painting of vibrant blooms.
Day 8: Farewell, Amsterdam - After breakfast, it was time to say goodbye to fellow guests and disembark, taking home memories of wooden windmills and blossoming flowers.
